Abstract: The effectiveness of competency-based assessment in technical schools is crucial for ensuring students acquire the practical skills needed for their careers. This study evaluates the impact of competency-based assessment on student outcomes and instructional quality in technical education. The objectives are: (1) to measure student performance and satisfaction with competency-based assessments, (2) to assess the alignment of these assessments with industry requirements, and (3) to identify best practices in implementing competency-based assessment. A survey research design is used, justified by its ability to gather detailed feedback from students and educators. The sample size includes 300 participants selected through purposive sampling. The case study focuses on technical schools in Delta State, known for their strong emphasis on practical training. Findings showed that competency-based assessment significantly improved students' practical skills and job readiness. However, challenges such as subjective grading and resource constraints were noted. Recommendations included standardizing competency assessment criteria, providing additional training for educators, and enhancing industry collaboration to ensure assessments reflect real-world requirements.
